A Selection of New Art Prints in the Jing Tai-Lin Style
In this blog post, I feature how I created a new collection of AI digital art in the style of 'JingTaiLan' (景泰蓝), a Chinese name for traditional cloisonné enamelware. This ancient process combines metalworking and porcelain-painting techniques using pigments made from ground precious stones with high fires mixed with other minerals. This method was imported to China under the Jingtai Emperor (1449-1457), and was perfected in the Ming Dynasty; it was developed in ancient times from the Byzantine empire. The cloisonné techniques prompted in such AI-models as these and the Canton style, are noteworthy, in order to create new generative AI-conceived artworks. I digitally enhance the resultant AI images in order to create new art prints and works that are suited for printing on canvas and other products.
Love songs for a lover's couple, this new AI-derived digital work, "A Poem Sung Upon a Pond" features a couple in traditional attire by a koi pond. The rich peonies symbolize prosperity, honor, and feminine affectionate beauty. Every petal is rendered with a delicate gradient against a light jade, dreamy koi-pond backdrop. The work is adapted from the classic JingTaiLin style of cloisonné enamel techniques imported to China under the Jingtai Emperor (1449-1457), which was perfected in the Ming Dynasty. This modern version features the characteristic fine lines of filigree copper-wire details, replete with koi fish, birds, intricate botanical, and tea & picnic details.

“A Jade Scholar Amidst a Thousand Blooms” is adapted from the classic JingTaiLin style of cloisonné enamel techniques imported to China under the Jingtai Emperor (1449-1457) which was perfected in the Ming Dynasty. This work features the characteristic fine lines of filigree copper-wire details, featuring stunning meticulous line work with a rich, jewel-toned palette to create a scene that feels both imperial and poetic.
The use of deep greens, vibrant magentas, and crisp whites reflects the mineral-based pigments used in Ming and Qing dynasty art. The floral symbolism of the foreground features a dense "millefleurs" arrangement of peonies —representing prosperity and honor, and chrysanthemums —symbolizing longevity and nobility. While in flatness and depth, the subtle shading on the ivory horse, a symbol of a refined scholar or a high-ranking official and his face, emphasizes decorative flatness and ornate patterns with a foreshortened perspective. The work's pristine color and cherry/plum-blossoms arching over the figure, frame the composition, and creates a sense of springtime renewal, suggesting purity and status.

"A Fragrance for an Empress" features a beautiful noblewoman in a traditional Hanfu, surrounded by a lush garden of chrysanthemums, delicate irises, and blossoming cherry-blossoms. The rich peonies symbolize prosperity, honor, and feminine beauty. Every petal is rendered with a delicate gradient against a stunning celadon backdrop. The work is adapted from the classic JingTaiLin style of cloisonné enamel techniques imported to China under the Jingtai Emperor (1449-1457) which was perfected in the Ming Dynasty. This modern version features the characteristic fine-lines of filigree copper-wire details and her vibrant crimson silk, replete with botanical intricate details.

"Jingtai Songs for a White Ivory Morning" features a beautiful empress surrounded by a lush garden of peonies, blossoming cherry-blossoms, malachite greens, and soft white-ivory. The work is adapted from the classic JingTaiLin-style of cloisonné enamel techniques imported to China under the Jingtai Emperor (1449-1457) which was perfected in the Ming Dynasty.
The "Jing Tai Lin" or Jingtailan style is historically characterized by its "blue of the Jingtai era." In this modern artistic interpretation of the style, the artist features an iconic "Jingtai Blue" decorative border. The piece is rich with auspicious symbolism. The peonies represent prosperity, honor, and feminine beauty, while the birds and butterflies signify joy and the harmony of nature.

"A Poetic Morning in Jade" features a young couple dressed in traditional attire by a koi pond. The rich peonies symbolize prosperity, honor, and feminine affectionate beauty. Every petal is rendered with a delicate gradient against a stunning celadon pond backdrop. The work is adapted from the classic JingTaiLin-style of cloisonné enamel techniques imported to China under the Jingtai Emperor (1449-1457) which was perfected in the Ming Dynasty. And finally in this set, I present "Empress of an Ocean Pearl" which features a beautiful Dragon's Daughter surrounded by a fantasy garden of peonies on a deep moonstone ground of midnight blue. This subtle dark gradient behind her sets off the composition in a striking high-contrast portrait, which allow for details in the "filigree copper-wire" to stand out on closer inspection. Each peony petal is rendered in subtle colorful shades of light and shadow against the midnight blue to complete the Chiaroscuro effect. Her blue ocean pearl-earring is in high color saturation as a chromatic counterpoint to the orange tints in her silk and surrounding peonies.
"It is said that wherever she looked, flowers bloomed out of season, and wherever she waited, young hearts found their destiny. Her eyes beckoned them with a silk embrace as a symbol of a love so powerful that it transcended even the deepest oceans."

Thank you for visiting my Art Prints in the JingTai-Lin Style blogpost that shares about my connection to, process with, and views about traditional fine art and modern studio applications. Using quality examples of the Fine and Decorative Arts, I feature how traditional digital art methods used with Generative AI can be employed to create new art reproductions as shown above. I also bring you topics in new developments in AI applications in general that have a direct impact on studio-arts practice. In this new blog resource, I focus on emerging creative applications and AI which offer new opportunities for art publishers, artists, and collectors with unique offerings that connect the possibilities of the past with today's artist's technologies and modern materials. I create these new historically sourced works using AI with samples of fine porcelain and references to current auctions, and edit the results digitally to refine them for art publishing applications.
